Brazil-Japan-Mexico-Canada-Costa Rica-England-USA !!
If you really want to see many different styles of soccer, Dallas, Texas is the place to be from March 20th through March 27th as Dallas Cup XXVI takes place says Tournament Manager Randy Jones. We are very excited about the group of teams in this years event.
Atletico Paranaense of Brazil will return to defend their championship of Dallas Cup XXV and bring the beautiful and attacking style of play they showed in Dallas last year. Atletico will play to become only the second club to win back-to-back Super Group Championships. Real Madrid of Spain did it in 1993 and 1994. Tahuichi of Bolivia won 4 consecutive Under 19 championships but only one, their last, in the Super Group which was formed in 1990. Aston Villa FC, the Under 17 Premier League Academy Champion last year and Hartlepool United FC, the Group A-Under 19 Champion of Dallas Cup XXV will represent England and bring similar but yet different styles to the matches. For the first time in the history of the Super Group there will be representation from the Far East with not just one but two teams. Maebashi Ikuei and Jubilo Iwata are eager to show the fans how soccer is being played in Japan. Dont be surprised to see a little Brazilian flair in their game as many Japanese players and coaches have trained in Brazil in recent years. Two teams from Mexico will be in the division and both Tigres and Santos Laguna will both be confident that the Mexican style of play will ultimately take the Boot and Ball trophy home. The Canadian Under 18 National Team will be the first National representation from Canada in Super Group history. Canadian youth national teams have provided outstanding results in recent years with a great performance in the UAE in 2003 and have qualified for the World U20 Championship in the Netherlands later this year and the U18 team looks to be a part of future U20 FIFA Championships. Costa Rica will have strong and steady representation from Deportivo Saprissa. Saprissa, which have played in the Super Group on numerous occasions, places an emphasis on youth development and have helped Costa Ricas National program continue to grow and allow the Ticos to show great improvement in recent years. Last but definitely not the least, the United States will be represented by 3 teams. The Dallas Texans Red (Texas), Sockers FC Chicago (Illinois) and SoCal United (California) are the trio of teams that provides one of the best opportunities ever for a USA team to win the Super Group . The Dallas Texans secured a berth in the group by winning the Fall League Championship of the Chamber Classic Soccer Alliances Classic League and the Sockers FC Chicago and SoCal United earned their spot based on current level of play and in large part because of a consistently solid performance during past Dallas Cup tournaments as they progressed from under 12 up through their current under 18 age group.
The Lake Highlands Stadium Schedule (subject to change) is now available on the Dallas Cup website at (www.dallascup.com). This schedule details selected preliminary round Super Group games on Opening Sunday (March 20) and Wednesday evening (March 23).
