DALLAS, Texas (Tuesday, Feb. 11) – The Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the United States, has announced that Liga MX side León will compete in the Gordon Jago Super Group this April at Dallas Cup XLI.
Club León will make their Super Group debut at the 2020 Dallas Cup this spring. León last participated in the 2008 edition of the tournament during the club’s lone prior appearance in the Under 15 division. A Liga MX club has reached the semi-finals of the Super Group in four of the past five years, and León hopes to continue this run of success in the elite bracket. With the addition of León, the 2020 Dallas Cup will feature three of the last four Liga MX finalists.
In recent years, La Fiera has become a powerhouse in Liga MX. Last year, León achieved the incredible record of winning 12 games in a row, a feat no other Liga MX side has ever achieved. They capped off the season by reaching the championship of Liga MX’s 2019 Clausura tournament, but fell short against Tigres in the final. The Mexican side has carried their good form into the 2019/2020 Liga MX season. León currently sits in first place of the 2020 Liga MX Clausura table and the 2019/2020 Aggregate Table, which combines the points of both the Apertura and Clausura Liga MX tournaments.
Club León joins a Gordon Jago Super Group that includes U18 Premier League champions Derby County FC, Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, Brazil’s Atlético Paranaense, defending Super Group champions Tigres, and recently announced debutant Atlético Nacional, among others. Dallas Cup XLI will be played April 5-12. Keep up to date with more news at www.dallascup.com and follow us on Twitter @dallascup.
