Jago & Jones Travel To Europe

Executive Director and Tournament Manager Working With Teams & Referees

Like two ships passing in the night Executive Director Gordon Jago and wife June were in England for 11 days and as they were returning to Dallas Tournament Manager Randy Jones and wife Donna were on their way to Bosnia/Herzegovina for 9 days.

While in London, Jago met with representatives from the English Football Association, the English Premier League, the English Football League and a number of top clubs. These meetings have generated interest from many of the clubs and referee associations. Clubs have inquired about sending their younger age youth teams in addition to the Super Group and many have already submitted their registrations on line. Meeting with the various referee associations of the FA, EPL and FL he was able to not only confirm the continuation of their sending top level referees to the Dallas Cup as they have for many years but to enhance the relationship which will result in an even stronger group of referees for Dallas Cup XXX.

Jones and his wife were the guests of FK Slavija of Sarajevo during the week-long celebration of the club’s 100th anniversary. “The hospitality of FK Slavija and the beauty of Sarajevo was beyond our wildest expectations” states Jones. During the trip Jones had the honor and opportunity to take part in various receptions and award ceremonies as well as watching a number of matches involving FK Slavija’s first team and youth teams. These activities presented the opportunity to meet with representatives of Red Star FK and Partizan FK of Belgrade, Serbia about their possible participation in 2009. Discussions were also held with representatives of the Bosnian and Serbian Federations to develop a relationship with their referee departments. It was also confirmed that FK Slavija will return in 2009 to play in Dallas Cup XXX in the under 16 age group. A three year plan was developed with the club that will allow the same core group of players to then return in 2010 in the under 19 group and finally in 2011 in the Super Group. This type of plan has been very successful over the years with other international clubs as the young footballers grow in confidence each year.
