Hunt Sports group Chairman, Lamar Hunt expressed his pleasure with the selection of the inaugural class. Each of these individuals have been significant contributors to the game we see today and most importantly, the long range growth of the game.
Gordon Jagos life has been devoted to the game of soccer as a player, coach, and administrator. Born in London, he played for the England U18 National Team and was selected as captain eight times. Jago played his entire 12 year professional soccer with Charlton Athletic FC in England. After being appointed the coach of Englands U18 National Team, Jago became the first person to both play and coach that team. As a manager/coach, he enjoyed success at Fulham FC, Queens Park Rangers and Millwall FC, taking QPR to the English First Division and Millwall to Division II of the English Leagues.
As head coach of the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League, he took the team to two soccer bowl appearances and won the NASL indoor championship in 1981. In 1984, he came to Dallas as Head Coach of the Dallas Sidekicks, leading the team to three Indoor Soccer Championships and winning Coach of the Year three times. After retiring from coaching, he served as Commissioner of the WISL and continues to serve as Executive Director for Dallas Cup. In that position, he has helped continue the rich tradition of the most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the world.
When asked about his induction into the Texans Credit Union Walk of Fame, Gordon was quoted as saying, Im very honored to be selected into this Walk of Fame. I feel this is in recognition to all of the coaches, at all levels, who have worked so diligently to grow the sport of soccer into its success today in Texas.
