Dallas Cup officials announce their expansion plans for the world-class international youth soccer tournament that includes a relocation of select games to the Frisco Soccer & Entertainment Center beginning with Dallas Cup XXVII, April 9-16, 2006. The expansion is a result of future plans to increase the tournament field to include two new age groups, Under15 and Under 13, in Dallas Cup competition.
Over the last twenty six years the Dallas Cup has positively impacted thousands of young men and women from around the world. Our tournament has grown to include on average forty-five international teams each year as well as representatives from top clubs in the United States. Adding two new age groups in the future will allow us to bring the Dallas Cup experience to many more young men in the USA and from around the world, said Judy Murphey, President of Dallas Cup.
Expanding the Dallas Cup to include the U15 and U13 age groups in the future allows us to maximize our impact on the global soccer community. Additionally, having a world class facility like the Frisco Soccer & Entertainment Center involved will continue to raise the level of play at Dallas Cup. We will continue to be involved with our longstanding partners at Richland College, the University of Texas-Dallas, and the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau, added Murphey.
Dallas Cup XXVII will continue to play matches at Richland College and UT-Dallas Soccer Complex and will host the Olympic style opening ceremonies, all feature games and additional matches at the Frisco Soccer & Entertainment Center.
The Dallas Cup currently has an annual economic impact on the greater Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in excess of $4 million including 6,000+ hotel room nights. Once the tournament expands over 236 teams will be participating, representing 4,480 players plus 1,344 team officials and over 200 referees. The additional participants will translate into another 3,000 hotel room nights bringing the tournament total to over 9,000 hotel room nights.
This partnership is further evidence that the Frisco Soccer & Entertainment Center is already fulfilling, and will continue to fulfill, its promise to be the marquee soccer facility in America, said Greg Elliott, FC Dallas' President & General Manager. The Dallas Cup is one of the best run, most prestigious youth tournaments in the world, and we are thrilled to host the event in Frisco.
